Building Stronger EU Partnerships Against Financial Crime
On 7 May, AMLA visited FIU Germany in Cologne for a productive exchange on strengthening cooperation across the European FIU network.

This Wednesday, our Chair Bruna Szego, addressed the public in Dublin to share AMLA’s short-term priorities, underscore the importance of the non-financial sector, and highlight the synergies between the Supervision and FIU Coordination pillars within AMLA.
Her remarks reflect our commitment to building a robust and integrated approach to anti-money laundering across all sectors.
Exciting times ahead as we continue shaping AMLA’s role at the heart of the EU’s AML/CFT framework.

Last week, AMLA welcomed the FIU working group to its premises for the first time.
This inaugural meeting marks the beginning of an important collaboration to define the support and coordination framework for the FIU pillar — a key part of AMLA’s mission.
As AMLA’s Chair, Bruna Szego, noted:
“AMLA has the potential to transform the fight against financial crime in the European Union by reinforcing the cooperation between Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs).”
FIUs are among AMLA’s main stakeholders, with a crucial role in enhancing the effectiveness and cohesion of the EU’s anti-money laundering system. We look forward to building this framework together.

Bruna Szego, Chair of AMLA, chaired the discussion, which opened with a brief overview of AMLA’s short-term priorities. The panel then addressed how supervisors, financial institutions, and the private sector are preparing for the upcoming regulatory framework.
A key part of the discussion focused on the role of AI and machine learning in the fight against money laundering—highlighting both the opportunities these technologies present and the risks that must be managed.
