FINTRAC’s financial intelligence was recognized by the Ontario Provincial Police in relation to Project Uptown, a human trafficking investigation that began in October 2022. As a result of the investigation, six individuals have been charged with 81 criminal offences, and five victims have been identified and are receiving necessary support. A total of $1,100 in Canadian currency was seized and more than 30 grams of various illicit substances were recovered. With the financial transaction reports received from Canadian businesses across the country, FINTRAC is providing valuable assistance to law enforcement and national security investigations.
