FINTRAC’s financial intelligence was recognized by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in an investigation into a large-scale human smuggling ring. The investigation revealed that the group funneled illegal migrants into the United States in the area around Cornwall, Ontario. The migrants were allegedly charged thousands of dollars by the smugglers. As a result of the investigation, four people have been arrested and arrest warrants have been issued for four additional suspects. With the financial transaction reports received from Canadian businesses across the country, FINTRAC is providing valuable assistance to law enforcement and national security investigations.
